How do I add an album to My Stack?

Select Add to Stack and choose the easiest way to find your album: scan the barcode, search by artist and album title, or add it manually. If RecordRoom finds multiple possible releases, choose the one that best matches your copy and save it to My Stack.

How do I scan a barcode?

Choose Add to Stack, select the barcode option, and use your device camera to scan the barcode on your record, CD, cassette, or other release. RecordRoom will search for matching releases. If more than one version uses the same barcode, we'll show you the possible matches so you can choose the right one. You can also enter the barcode manually.

Why did my barcode return several matches?

That's normal. The same barcode can sometimes be used for multiple pressings, reissues, formats, or regional releases. Check details such as format, release year, country, label, catalog number, version or pressing notes. Choose the closest match to the copy you own.

What's the difference between an exact release and a general album?

Choose an exact release when you care about the specific pressing, edition, year, country, or version you own. Choose the general album option when you simply want to track that you own the album and don't care which pressing it is. Both count as items in My Stack.

What if I can't find my version?

You have a few options: try searching by artist and album title instead of barcode, choose the general album if the exact pressing isn't important to you, or add the item manually.

Yes. Manual entry is always available if RecordRoom can't find an album or if you'd rather enter the information yourself.

How do I edit an album in my collection?

Open the album from My Stack and choose the edit option. You can update your personal collection information without changing the original album metadata RecordRoom found when you added it.

You can keep personal information such as notes, condition, storage location, version or edition details, acquisition details, and estimated value. These fields are for your own collection and can be changed whenever you like.

Can I add the same album more than once?

Yes. If you own multiple copies of the same album, each physical copy can be added to your collection separately. This is useful if you own different pressings, formats, or conditions.

How do I remove an album from My Stack?

Open the album you want to remove and use the delete or remove option. RecordRoom offers a brief undo right after removing an item, but once that passes the entry may not be recoverable.

Where does RecordRoom get album information?

RecordRoom uses music metadata from established music databases and other approved sources to help identify physical releases. RecordRoom keeps this imported album information separate from the personal information you add to your collection.

Why are there so many versions of the same album?

Physical music gets reissued. A lot. One album may have different pressings based on country, year, record label, format, catalog number, color or edition, reissue or remaster.

What should I do if the album information is wrong?

If the release is clearly the wrong version, try searching again and selecting a different match. If the exact version isn't available, you can use the general album option or add the item manually.

Why is an album cover missing?

Artwork isn't available for every release. When RecordRoom can't find suitable artwork, we'll use a fallback rather than preventing you from adding the album.

Can I add or change the cover image?

Yes. You can upload your own photo or change the cover used for an item in your collection. On a phone you can take a photo of the sleeve and crop it. Your personal image applies to your collection entry and does not change the underlying album database.

Yes. RecordRoom supports CSV importing so you don't have to rebuild an existing collection one album at a time.

RecordRoom can use information from your CSV to create collection entries and, when possible, match them with existing album metadata. The exact fields available may depend on the information contained in your file.

What happens if RecordRoom can't match an item in my import?

An unmatched item doesn't mean you can't keep it. RecordRoom can preserve collection information from your import even when an exact album match isn't available. You can review or edit the item later.
